Catalog Course Description:    
   In conjunction with Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), students will develop and implement a variety of projects that foster the principles of free enterprise while helping local businesses and the community.
Entry Level Standards:    
   Students must be able to read, write, speak and reason at the college level.
Prerequisite:    
   Recommendation by a PSTCC  business faculty member

I. Week/Unit/Topic Basis:    
  Week  Topic
  1-2 Orientation - Explanation of the course and the roles of faculty advisors and students.  Organization of teams with a review of team development and function
  3 Teams define their projects, set goals and develop strategies
  4-9 Teams develop their projects and prepare their report on the outreach projects of the SIFE chapter
  10-15 Write and print the report.  Prepare oral presentation of the report
  16 Presentation of the report to a panel of business people at the regional SIFE competition

  4. IV. Expectations for Student Performance*: 
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Course credit and grades are earned on the following contractual basis:
Course grade of A: 
1. Participation on assigned projects is determined to be outstanding by peers and advisor
2. Attend at least one Business Advisory Committee meeting
3. Active participation in training for presentation
4. Attend Southeast Regional Presentations
5. Attend International Exposition if necessary
6. Must participate as a SIFE team member during both the fall and spring semesters
Course grade of B: 
1. Participation on assigned projects is determined to be above-average by both peers and advisor
2. Attend at least one Business Advisory Committee meeting
3. Active participation in training for presentation
4. Attend Southeast Regional Presentations
5. Attend International Exposition if necessary
6. Must participate as a SIFE team member during both the fall and spring semesters
Course grade of C: 
1. Participation on assigned projects is determined to be average by both peers and advisor
2. Attend at least one Business Advisory Committee meeting
3. Active participation in training for presentation
4. Attend Southeast Regional Presentations
5. Attend International Exposition if necessary
6. Must participate as a SIFE team member during both the fall and spring semesters
Course grade of D: 
1. Participation on assigned projects is determined to be below-average by both peers and advisor
2. Attend at least one Business Advisory Committee meeting
3. Must participate as a SIFE team member during both the fall and spring semesters
Course grade of F:
Fails to meet minimum requirement for a "D"

Grading Characteristics:  The SIFE faculty advisor will subjectively determine the quality of work performed on projects primarily based on the following criteria:  promptness, dependability, commitment, dedication, effort, teamwork regarding cooperation, and quality of finished work.  Peer evaluations will also be used to determine grades.  Note: In the event of an extenuating circumstance which interferes with a required participation, see SIFE faculty advisor before activity is held.  If possible, the work/activity will be allowed to be made up.

Attendance Policy:
Pellissippi State Technical Community College expects students to attend all scheduled instructional activities.  As a minimum, students in all courses must be present for at least 75 percent of their scheduled class and laboratory meetings in order to receive credit for the course.
