OFFICER REPORTS

Communications Officer Rick Bower is working on adding names of new full-time and adjunct faculty to the list-serve, Fcouncil-L.

TBR Representative Dave Vinson will attend the Oct. 19 subcouncil meeting. Anyone with concerns that need to be discussed at that meeting should contact him.

President Lisa Bogaty reported on the following issues:

A.As a result of Steering Committee discussion of President Bogaty’s written recap of the July 30 Learning Council meeting, the “Focus on Faculty” presentations mentioned in her e-mail will take place in the new High Performance Teaching forums rather than at regular Faculty Council meetings.

B.Bogaty reported that she would attend the Aug. 28 Learning Council meeting and take Steering Committee’s suggestions and concerns about money-saving measures and the new registration process. Discussion included the following items:

1)The practice in some departments of requiring faculty to hand out paper copies of the Master Syllabus for a course when that information is accessible on the Web

2)A question about whether any changes are being considered in load hours for Web classes

3)A variety of comments on New Student registration and scheduling assistance, which Bogaty asked for in written form and then compiled

4)Clarification of attendance reporting regarding students who don’t complete or pass a course.

A motion to amend promotion and tenure policies 06:02 and 06:03 to “exclude from voting any faculty member who is released for 50% or more of his or her department duties for 2 of the last 3 years of a candidate’s eligibility,” which was passed by Faculty Council last year, is scheduled for discussion in Learning Council Aug. 28. Past-president Toni McDaniel reported that the motion had already been passed by Learning Council last spring. President Bogaty will point out the redundancy to Learning Council.
