TBR
Representative, Dave Vinson, reported that TBRFaculty
Sub-Council voted on the new Gen.
Ed. requirements, with the vote reported as 9 Pro & 9 Con, with 1 abstention. When
the minutes were reviewed, Dave
realized that only 17 people were present, so a re-vote is being conducted
this week. The other Sub-Councils approved, but there seems to be some
willingness on the part of the
TBR Committee to allow further discussion, in light of the requirements
not receiving overwhelming faculty
support. Dave expressed a willingness to attend committee meeting
in Nashville if Steering Committee thinks that would be helpful.

Division
Street
January
28 is deadline for a decision on whether to close Division Street next
summer; the issue remains open
to debate. Right now, the budget situation looks too tight for keeping
all 4 campuses open during Summer
2003.
Toni
McDaniel expressed concern, after speaking with Dr. Bruns, that
there would be more problems getting summer classes to make or be available
for f. t. faculty if all 4 campuses offered summer classes.
The
list of concerns about the closure, particularly concern about damage to
facility and equipment, were discussed.Concern
was expressed that some programs at Division St. could not practically
be moved elsewhere, such as photography. The
idea of keeping Division St. open and offering classes strategically, particularly
those not available elsewhere or essential to Division Street's unique
programs (photography, L. A. T.) was discussed; students needing those
courses would be served without undermining enrollment on other campuses.
Heartwarming
House Warming
Donations
are needed for tornado victims--a list of needed items, new or good-condition
used,is on the flyer for the Heartwarming
Housewarming, by December 9, at all campuses. The
celebration will take place December 9 at 2-4 p. m., Goins Student Lounge.

Lisa
Bogaty brought the following motion:
Motion
Faculty
Council proposes to study the impact of web delivery on the effectiveness
and efficiency of student learning
and faculty teaching.
Discussion
involved the move toward shutting down night and low enrollment day classes
by using the rationale that
students can always take those classes online. Lisa offered the suggestion that
there should always be at least one section of each course offered on campus,
because some students will never
have the skills to successfully complete an online class and may therefore
be unable to graduate. Several
objections were raised to the motion on the grounds that Pellissippi has
already become irrevocably committed to online courses and that efforts
to stop them will probably prove
futile. Others offered the opinion that, while we may not be able to control
whether or not these classes
are offered, we still need to maintain the same standards that apply to
regular classes. The need for
quality control is an issue F. C. and department heads may need to address, as
well as advising students appropriately as to whether they have the skills
to succeed in
online
classes.
Motion
carried.
